If you haven’t seen the latest news… there was a caucus last night and the race for the next President of the United States has now officially begun. More importantly, Pennsylvania’s most famous rodent has predicted and early Spring. Hopefully that means the amazingly mild weather will continue until July 4th but I have probably doomed us all to 12 feet of snow and a scorching hot summer by mentioning it. Sorry!
As for the love part. Well, it’s February so I think there is some rule mandating that I bring up the “L” word in a blog post… so the blogging world doesn’t arrest me, here it goes. I LOVE running in Aiken. Seriously, we are an incredibly lucky bunch of people. As we were walking down Mead Ave. on Saturday after our long run, we met a gentleman from Greenville who was out training for a half. He walked with us for a while and raved about how pretty the area was and what a wonderful town for running we have. Of course, he was right. We have great weather most of the year, we have hills and neighborhoods that are mostly flat, we have horse country when our shins are a little sore, we have Hitchcock Woods and Pacer Path when we want a challenge or are just tired of the road and we have incredible parks when we need to get in a quick run after work on a dark night or decide we want to punish ourselves with mile repeats. There really is a lot to love about Aiken Running.
We also see racing come back to the area in February with some great local races. Come out and get active with the Run for the Roses 5k on February 6th, at Pacer Path. Enjoy those chocolate treats on Valentine’s day after you run the Love on the Run 5k on February 13th. Finish the month by showing Augusta that Aiken runners aren’t afraid of their hills and join the 65 Roses Team at the Augusta University Half and 10k on February 28th.
Have an amazing month!
